Flying (maybe)…
Posted on 09 July 2010
We’re almost two weeks into shooting GrassRoots and to some degree I’ll talk about details of the process after the dust has settled, though I’ll try my best doing it a bit as we go along.
More than anything I guess I want to keep exploring here and on the GrassRoots website what it’s really like to be a director on an independent film. Also, just the process of trying to get anything done. I think that now it’s been almost a year (or is it just a little bit more than a year) that I started this website with the help of Tim Griggs, who’s now deep into getting built Grassrootsthefilm.com website, which I’m hoping really becomes something big for the film. A year ago GrassRoots was not even really a script that was working yet and I think what is interesting to me is what a messy process it is to getting a film made (getting anything made). That so much goes wrong. So often one (certainly I) feel really unsure and even a little scrared – scattered.
But somehow or other the pieces are pulled together. There is a tremendous amount of help from other people and now (for very little money – I’ll come back to the details of that later) we are making a film that I just simply couldn’t be prouder of — an amazing cast, an amazing crew.
You never know anything for sure, but I think we may really be making an amazing movie. And if we are (time will be the arbiter on that) then seeing us/me stumbling towards it is a useful thing for anyone to see who has doubts as to whether they can pull anything off (anything — sometimes just waking up in the morning.) But here we are — a website that keeps pushing itself forward and a movie that seems to be flying. Ah, life!
