Cast the chatty one; she’s got a future!

This is a fascinating mini-movie. You grabbed a big scoop of life and wrapped it up in six and a half minutes. Many real full length films could emerge around some of these characters. I love that these people who seemed afraid of a whole range of phenomena, didn’t hesitate to open up to you. Rather different from some of the stiff and impatient ones you had filmed on the streets in LA. You’re just handing me more and more inputs for my promised response to your Fear post.

The initial bit was from your Mask clip posted long back, wasn’t it?

I won’t put in spoilers now, let more people see the video.
I must tell you though – SPOILER ALERT – if there’s one kind of person that I’m afraid of, it’s that dude who went on and on with his self created definition of “gay” around which he built his fears. “They’re not tough guys, they’re gay!” WOW. And I must say you needled him on that one!

With this kind of “phobic” person (the ones whose fears are based on severe misconceptions) there’s a palpable hatred seething inside them that they can ill conceal. Which in fact, they flaunt with pride! Another kind of protective mask?

As for the “tough” guy myth, that’s yet one more mask isn’t it? The most common maybe. It’s always a suprise when the really tough people, the ones who are strong inside, reveal themselves to you. Through the most unassuming of exteriors. And in my experience many of those happen to be gay.

Thanks for this video. I can see the difference between these and the clips you made on the craft of creating TV episodes.

This was one of your best videos. It is for sure in another category as the TV-episodes clips. Those will be (even) better when edited together. This Air Port Exit into New York is a short film by itself. It stands alone.

What I especially liked was that you subtitled one of the guys. I understand it takes some time, but I believe that if you should go further with it, the perception and enjoyment of the whole movie would get higher with more subtitles.

I agree with “SHE”; “the chatty one” is very good. But the reason for this is actually you, The Anonymous TV- and Movie Director. One who is “acting” as any private person with no other o-p-e-n agenda than having a chat or two with your fellow-beings.

Having pondered about it, I think the subway passengers would have acted otherwise if you had introduced yourself in advance. Or did you?

Thank you. No, I didn’t introduce myself other than to say I was doing a blog. Once one person was talking it was easier to get others to join in. I’m looking forward to doing more of these. The “street” is a wonderful place.

That video is perfect… Just shows that every human is different and has his opinion (or hasn’t haha!) The “chatty” girl is just magnificent. The story of the guy with tattoo is touching. The guy with the NY hat has partly right (different eras) but yet shows he knows nothing about how it feels like to be a gay person… It’s still sad that people today judge others by their sexual preferance/or their looks…Maybe in a few years (decades?) things will change… (At least I hope so.) Finally this video, shows that when you go out and speak to random people you may find out some interestings things…
The woman who don’t speak it’s really mysterious and interesting, you can guess some things by her looks…in my opinion. Maybe all these are because of a really interesting person like you, asking them… THANKS!
Keep posting videos! –One of the most interesting videos I’ve ever came across…–

Thank you. And I agree. It’s funny how a camera has given me (and others) an excuse to connect. Really connect and then share that with others. There’s much to play with here for me (for all of us) re deepening this process. More videos will emerge…

  • Love this video. So refreshing. And moving. Nothing like New Yorkers sharing their points of view. You inspire me to pick up a camera.
